SONGS:
When These Songs Sing
Rock n Roll Illustrated book 1973 or 75. Pete’s picture, to a child it made me wonder “who is this guy, isn’t he in that baked beans band” ?
Plus The Line “ Shaking The Rafters ” in The Song Is homage To the Pete & The band
Nicola
Speaks for itself. It is the first version of the song I had come up with, but was vetoed by Eric.
It’s my favorite version, written 1995, Recorded In 1999 By Joe Luton who was in the play TOMMY on the road. And finally heard by Nicola in 2006, which renewed our friendship.
Adultery
Nothing to do with Anything. I wrote It back in 1981,82,83 ? after hearing John Lennon’s First Solo Record “ Plastic Ono Band” ( Which Keith Moon played on ). I Added It feeling “If Pete was To add a ballad, It would be something with bite”
So the only acoustic ballad here, shall be this one
Wasted & Out There
Another not related to anything tune…written in the 1980’s. Lydia throw me some lines as a joke & I put em into the song, turned out to be our First co-written song together.
Jezo
3 Times a charm
Nothing to do with my beloved WHO. More my “Stones song” that needed a home. It’s About Jezo Black a NYC local “Almost Star” in the late 80’s / early 90’s. I was band less By the summer of 91, and just an outsider looking into the scene… Jezo was nice enough, so popular & easy on the eyes, I started a song about her. It had to take me til the early 2000’s to complete all the lyrics. She’s still a cool chick & plays out with bands to this very day. O’Flaherty’s ( 1993 / The HOUSE OF PETE ) saved me in many a way.
Losing My Mind ( Guest Circus Seal )
BACK TO THE WHO:
This is a band tune, the group I’m in “Circus Seal”. Doug did such a great job on the lyrics that we had to put it on both CD’s…One with a guitar solo, The other piano solo. While writing it, I kept saying “It feels like a WHO Song To Me, what would Pete Do” ? And Doug’s lyric reflects that, it’s really another version of “When These Songs Sing”, same theme, same elk. He wrote the lyrics without having ever hearing my song…which he eventually did while driving him home from a studio one night.
Needs
MY 1st WHO SONG: In 1997 it Seemed to be the end of the “THE WHO” at O’Flaherty’s, everyone back to The UK For good…Connecticut Bob not coming to NYC anymore…it all seemed that that phase of the bar was over. So I seat in my apartment one day thinking “what was all that about” ? And my best way of summing it all up was writing 2 songs in homage to Pete & the band. And although I’m singing Both parts, In my head it’s a switch off between Roger & Pete… I couldn’t find anyone to sing the other part…was hoping Simon would, but as I’ve said before about myself “I aim too high” Smile M
LOST
My Def Leppard song from 1983. This version has Mike Messer singing the lead Vocal - Thank You Mike. He toured with Simon in the 90’s as the singer for “ The British Rock Symphony ”
100 Good Reasons
My 2nd “Who Song” from 1997: I even had a harpsichord sample in it !!! - engineer took it out ( ha ha ha ). I totally had in my head the Roger / Pete switch off here as well…I’m honored to have Michael Cerveris ( My Personal TOMMY ) switching off with me on vocals, Thank you Michael. He contacted me on the heels off of visiting Nicola in London, and I’ve been saving this as a surprise for her ever since !!!
Nicola ( 1995 Eric’s )
What can be said about this one, so honored and glad Nic loved it back in 1995… Recorded under duress for me, but I did make a friend for life in Eric outta it all. So when he asked me to include here, it was an easy choice.
Summer Rain
Whadda a way to end the CD, with my Zeppelin like song – Remember Pete’s Interview about Zeppelin Ha ha ha ha. Yep, nothing to do with The band, just album filler… I did have better choices ( By 2024 ) To put in its place, but the CD has been Mastered since February, so I figured I’d leave It in here.
Love You WHO people, LOVE you Nic…Thank you all for letting me be a fly on the wall for many a year now
Peace
